Blog Assignment 10:Design Synthesis

Learning this course the design history, which has an huge impact on my own approach to think about my design work. At first, I think the design history is a kind of method to create or imagine my own design work. Because in the design history which indicate the successful designers' ideals and the design concepts so that I can learn from them. For example, the Rococo, which is the kind of atical style in that time, but it influenced on the culture quite a lot. Thoughout study the positive and the critiques of the Rococo style, I know how the design history progress step by step. Then I know that the design depends on the economy levels which means the economy level and the political measures influenced on the design developing. For instance, the Bauhaus which has an impact on my minds. Because the new materials used, the designers concerned the function of the objects. And I feel the their design work achieved another stage that is using sinple structure and less ornamental concepts to complete the perfect design work.
So I think this course not only bring me the history of design, but also it is important to imagine the approaches to think over my own design work in the future.

Blog Assignment 9

This image which I found is used 2D technologies to complete. "Postmodernism is consistent of the objective truth and the global cultural narrative." And "remix" also is used in this design image. In this image, the designer said that it illustrates the graphic language to create this kind of atmosphere. In addition, this image with some hand drawing elements, which are some biological patterns.Besides we can see obviously that the "2D" which is in the center is a type of moving and try to structure the moving flashing.
However, this image indicate that various kinds of coorperation language. In this graphic design, the designer is based on the simple level patterns, but which is intentional. Using the techniques to show the design which is trying to moving. It can make the audience get more motional effects.
The postmodernist and the remix are also becoming the significants tools to show the design. In the postmodernism, the objective truth is an important part. So in the 2D design, although it is just used the simple level lines or patterns, it can build some moving feelings. This can help people understand the meanings of the image and aim to touch the sense.

Blog Assignment 8: Politics of Design

Any design tendency wants to develop, which needs the development of the ecomoy and the improvement of the consumers' demands. For example, America put the Marshall Plan to help the European counties' economic recovery. We obviously know that the European counties depend on American help which are the technological help, investment. Although these counties' economy would recovery, America also controled some of the trades of thses counties' developments. In the this week's reading, it said the Germany and Italy has huge impacts on the consumer society. Because of the technologies revolution, the citizens can hence their life levels. Then the citizens not only concern the uticity of the objects, but also the cultural sign fashion of the them.

This ad image I choosed is the Coca-Cola ad. Coca-Cola is the most famous soft drink brand at now. For the Coca-Cola, there is a long history. It was built in American, but now it has a huge networks in the world. After the War 1, the makets of the Coca-Cola reduced seriously, but it recoveried by the CEO's meatures in a period time. The Coca-Cola company depends on every counties customers' features to take the advertisement to sell more products. Moreover, we know that the Coca-Cola company got the American gvernment's support. This is why it can become the biggest soft drink brand . It means Political support is always can bring the ecomonic pofits then the ecomoy becomes the fundation of cultural sign fashion developments.

A good designer needs to have the unique background in my opinion. Because a good designer is regarded as herself (himself) is the artist rather than just design the objects everyday. A designer who has the special experience can think and design the unique works. And he needs to understand the meaning of the design knowledge. Furthermore, any designer have their own concepts and the ideologgies in their design works. So thses can be the traditional culture ideas, modern design ideas and so on. I think the good designer can put their own ideas which are their knowledge and experience in their works and becomes a kind of feature.

As far as we know, the Bauhaus stands the universal arts in contemporary industrial society. It is so important for artists to study because it has an huge impact on the function, technology and the economic effects. There is no denying that the Bauhaus is the meaningful process in arts, which formed the critical methodology.
The Bauhaus concertrated on the people's living standards,which using of new technology and mechanized industrial production. The features the Bauhaus are the functional universal and technological. Compared with the modern design education, the Bauhaus is the pioneer that has no luxurious effects but the Bauhaus brings the demands of life. "Arts is an technology: A new unity!"(reading part 2) With the development of the design education, technological tools are becoming the key elements are used in the design areas. For example, most of the websites are using the digital technologies to promote their websites. The digital function is used for relating to the each part of the websites.
In addition, in the modern design education, there is another similarity is the individual and indulgent esthetic activity. "As a result, claimed its decrators, the Bauhaus produced the kind of individual and indulgent esthetic activity at variance with the social aims expressed in the 1919 manifesto."(reading part 2) At that time, the designers in the Bauhaus were aiming at the decoration is becoming more functional. For instance, the kitchen designs can indicate this point. Of cuorse, in the modern design, the decoration is more used in the individual demends and objects function.

Firstly, I agree with the Benjamin's arugement. Because in the photography , the aura is always bring us the sense about that vision. Then as the audiences, we will think over the authentic later. In the reading, Walter Benjamin' book illuminations, it said “with the different methods of technical reproduction of a work of art its fitness for exhibition increase to such an extent the ……an instrument of magic.” I agree with this quotation, it indicate the essential element of photography is ask for the authentic,makes no sense.
Secondly, I think there is a role for the 'authentic'in an age of digital design and manufacture. Although we pay more attention to the aura vision and subjectivities, we cannot ignore the objects reflect the authenticity to the audiences. In addition, I think there is always existing an important role for the authentic in an age of digital design and manufacture. Because I think manufacture and digital design are based on the fundamental feelings which are come from the real space.

Nowadays, the hand cafts are still intrested by a lot of pepole. Although it is made by hand, the essential effects and the important roles of the crafts are standing in the arts area.

The Chinese paper-cut arts will be outlined in this short assignment. The Chinese paper-cut arts is the traditional arts in China. But it is still playing a so important role in the comtemporary soiety. Because it is made by hands, and it empresses the Chinese culture that bring the people the beauty wishes and the hopes. In some small towns in China, there are a lots of hand-craft makers, they working by groups and holding the arts show to promote this kind of culture. When the Chinese festivals are coming, people will buy some to decorate their windows.

Comparing with the mechanical arts, the paper-cut arts indicates originals and intellectual of the people. The paper-cut makers design the patterns of the production and cut by hand. We can find the "Show design manifesto" in the lecture notes, it said "design for space to think, react, dream and muse and design for local first, global second……" The paper-cut arts is knowing by more and more people and developing as well.

There is no denying that the hand craft will be developed better and better. Because the DIY arts is acceped by more people. And it is suitable for finding the people's creation and the intelligent. It gives us more space to design our life.

According to the "Construction should be decorated, Decoration should never be purposely constructed."by Jones. In my opinion, I disagree with it. At first, I think the construction and the decoration are both important for any design objects. In addition, these two elements like a coin, we know cion has two sides and these two sides are consistant a whole thing. At the early time of design, there are many designers were pay attention to the construction more than decoration, but with the development of the industries, the decoration became more significant. The designers put the oramental concepts and the frames togather and designesd a lot of objects.

In the lecture, the beauty and the utility are mentioned. The unility is the fundamental reason for the beauty I think. Because the industrialization of the world, people would demends more for the beauty of the objects.



This light I chose is the example of the construction decorated I think. It is included in the modernism arts. So it is the comtemporary arts. We can see this light, the frame is very obviouly to see and decoration is based on the constructions. About the main axle, it is like the flower opend which is the false principle I think. Because it is used the imitation from the real flower.

This photo is the Palace of Queluz which a perfect example to indicate the Rococo achitecture.The Rococo style was famous in 18th centry in Europe.This style of arts with the luxurious and complex elements.

At first, about the sensuous impulse, this bulding bring us the exquisite and the soft by the curves. Because the Rococo style reflects the luxurious of the noble life, so the complex carcing is the second important empression I think.

Although we know that these were designed and builded in the 18th centry which inculded the historicial architecture, the Rococo stlye we also can find nowadays. I mean this kind of curve is continuing untill now. But they are indicated by simple images. For eample, the arts in post modern area. Besides, in the victoria, we also can see the soft curves.

For the Palace of Queluz, the famous part is the garden. The pictures on the wall are made by the complex curves. So we can feel manifest the greatful and huge power from that period in the the imperial family. Now, it open for the public, it is a crucial chance for the artists to sutdy them.

the Chinese Pavilion

The example of design that I want to say is the Chinese Pavilion in Shanghai Expo.
The pavilon is so greatful and show us the Chinese spirits. The red wall and the quality indicate the historical and traditional Chinese cultural. And it brings us the power of the the Chinese culture and history.
